All the pieces for a charming country kitchen setup

Enamelware Roasting Pan (large)
The simple white enamel items with the black rims is what I consider the classics of a country kitchen set-up. I imagine a piping-hot roast chicken sitting in the roasting pan (above) filling the kitchen with the aroma of herbs and cornbread stuffing. I imagine roasted mixed vegetables and all it's juices piled into round basin (below).

Enamel Coffee Pot
A pot of hot coffee and the simple salt and pepper shaker sit on the table amid the clutter of food so deliciously and charmingly displayed on the buffet. When it comes to country living, it seems, the simpler the better.

Old-school recipe cards

I'm not all too sure why it is that when I think of anything country, everything vintage comes to mind.  They must go hand-in-hand somehow.  I saw a set of traditional old-school recipe cards being sold at Food52 and visions of a cabin amongst shimmering gold fields popped into my head.  A french window to a small kitchen is open letting in the french country air whilst strawberry jam is boiling on the stove.  The sweet aroma of cooking strawberries makes one think of butter and toast.  And on the counter amongst a clutter of dirty dishes and leftover strawberries is a jam splattered recipe card, like this one.

A picture of October

From Terrain

Terrain puts out some of the most charming and lovely pictures, most times I find they are simple yet heartfelt.  Here is a Terrain picture for the month of October that I felt worth posting.

Some of the sweetest things in life....

Country love elsewhere: England

When I try to picture the English country-side and home Joe Wright's 2005 film, Pride and Prejudice, pops up into my mind.  Of course back in those times living in the country-side of England meant even the middle-class lived on an estate. Thus naturally we do have some estate country-side home pictures posted to day, but we also have more contemporary English country-side homes as well...

The simple boxy stone homes are traditional to country estates.

There were also extravagant cottage-styled homes also known as Tudors, that came about in the Tudor-period of England.

Smaller cottage-style country homes for the less fortunate but none-the-less just as beautiful as their larger cousins.

And in a country town you have country townhomes.  Usually made of stone with peaked roofs, these homes line a street side by side, very closely together, hence... townhomes.

And here are more townhomes in a country town, but obviously in an area that is more rural than the area of the townhomes pictured above.

Then there are the more contemporary English country-side homes, while they seem to try to keep the tradition of building the structure with stone there does seem to be a marked difference in style and the overall appearance from the more traditional English country homes.

More contemporary country-side homes

Moroccon hanging lamps on the patio

A unique way of setting up your country-side home patio.  I'd probably nix the poufs but a few comfortable chairs with Moroccon hanging lamps will still be quite a beautiful and relaxing scene in the evenings.

Below are a few lanterns that can be purchased at Cost Plus World Market to help you achieve the Moroccon look.

The great gift in wreaths

Sage & Lavender wreath on sale @ Terrain $28.95

Call me crazy but I think every woman deep down inside has a thing for wreaths.  Wreaths come in different designs and can be made of almost anything, I've seen modern wreaths made of Christmas tree balls and of course the usuals made of plain twigs, flowers and other natural things.

I admit that I equally love wreaths as much as the next neighbor, I think they go especially well on front doors and they seem to last for quite awhile considering.  I gifted my mother one year with a beautiful floral wreath she hung on her front door, it lasted a little over a year before she had to replace it, but it kept her house looking beautiful and ornamented on the outside for a whole year- I say "that's a bargain!"

A charming country wedding in an urban setting

Think you can't imitate a country wedding in the city?  Think again.  My little brother and his girl-friend of 10 years finally tied the knot this past weekend, the wedding decor was a rustic country theme and it turned out to be quite charming.  Many wild flowers, hanging tinted coffee filters, candles, mismatched wooden chairs, a rustic french table runner were just a few of the decoration items that enhanced the mood.

Part of the uniqueness of this wedding theme and decor was largely due to the contrasting area at which the wedding was held, an urban building right in the middle of Culver City.
